Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology was created in 2020 from the merger of two faculteis: Forestry and Wood Technology. Faculty of Forestry was established in 1919 as a part of the University in Poznań, Poland. Facultie's research covers a wide range of scientific problems facing forestry, such as:
- climate change,
- biological conditions of forests,
- forest protection,
- wood production,
- forestry economics.
The basic aim of the Faculty of Forestry is educating future foresters - a professional with a solid knowledge of forests with their ecological mechanisms and features, as well as wood production lines. The main aim of his or her work is the wise management of the forest. This means forest management as a renewable natural resource for the benefit of society, the ecosphere and the wood processing industry. The forester must balance management of forest resources to satisfy the complex structure of needs by society and for the benefit of the biosphere, which creates the indispensable environment for the human race. The graduate is well prepared for work in State Forest administration, national parks, forest contracting enterprises and in other related to forestry and wood handling.
While at University, students can benefit from a number of international study programmes, like Erasmus, CEEPUS, Leonardo da Vinci Programme or Euroforester. These programmes enable students to complete a part of the curriculum or take part in various courses abroad; at other higher education institutions that co-operate with our University of Life Sciences. The Faculty of Forestry offers Bachelor (B.Sc.F.), Master (M.Sc.F.), and Doctorate (PhD) Programmes.
The Bachelor Programme is offered to candidates with a good command of biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry and with strong interests in natural and technical sciences. The programme takes 7 semesters (3.5 years) to complete and can be realized in three specialization areas: general forestry, forest protection and forestry business. The Bachelor Programme represents a wide spectrum of subject areas which cover botany, zoology, chemistry, mathematics and statistics, ecology, silviculture, soil science, pathology, entomology, game management, protection of forests, economics and management, forest machinery and wood transport, forest engineering and hydrology, wood harvesting, wood science, to name only the main subject areas. Upon successful completion of the programme, the candidate is awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry (B.Sc.F.).
The Master's Programme is offered to graduates with a Bachelor's degree in forestry (B.Sc.F.) and it takes 3 additional semesters. The programme consists of lectures, labs and in-the-field training/trips. The curriculum covers a wide spectrum of subjects which concentrate around advanced forest biology, technology, management and economics. The student will also benefit from seminars run by well experienced academic staff. The objectives of the programme are to provide the student with advanced knowledge of the subject covered by the curriculum as well as with modern forestry research methods.
The Graduate will be capable of solving biological, managerial, economic and technical tasks and challenges posed by modern forestry today. Students are required to prepare a master's thesis and pass a final examination in order to obtain the degree of Master of Science in Forestry (M.Sc.F.).
There is a high level of intensive scientific activity and successful teaching at the Faculty. This is possible due to its many departments with scientists dedicated to teaching and doing research in their specific fields of interest.

The Dendrological Garden
Former Faculty of Wood Technology at Poznań University of Life Sciences was created in 1954. Currently within the Faculty there is one Institute of Chemical Wood Technology and 9 Departments (Chemistry, Glueing and Finishung of Wood, Furniture Design, Mechanical Wood Technology, Mechanics and Thermal Techniques, Wood Science, Woodworking Machinery and Basic Construction, Wood Based Materials). All organizational units of the Faculty (except Department of Chemistry) are under one roof and have 28 laboratories and classrooms where nearly 600 students may participate classes at the same time. Some laboratories are located in experimental station with half-technical scale of experiments possibilities. There are also 3 lecture rooms for 190, 150 and 60 students. Wood Technology Faculty employs 74 university teachers including 26 senior researchers. The Faculty offers two-tier structure studies in a full-time and extramural mode at the major “Wood Technology” and full-time studies at the major ”Furniture Design”.There is also a doctorate postgraduate programme, both full-time and extramural. Syllabuses of studies complying with international educational standards aim at educating highly qualified research personnel who meet expectations of woodworking industry and its research-development base. On the educational offer there are also postgraduate studies (computer-supported design and production of furniture and wood and wood based materials in construction). The Faculty of Wood Technology is entitled to confer Doctor degrees and post-doctoral degrees of forestry and wood science.
Research issues of the Faculty regard the following subjects related to:
- structure and property of wood, mainly in the aspects of improving its use and extending raw materials base,
- new methods of chemical and physicochemical conversion of wood and other lignocellulose raw materials,
- technical, technological and economical basis of new wooden constructions and products,
- research on condensation and polycondensation reaction- natural and synthetic polycondensats,
- acquirement of active carbon and creating nanofibers out of lignocellulose materials,
- research on protection and conservation of modern and archaeological wood.
At present, the Faculty is offering for potential students of The Interdisciplinary Doctorate Studies for Foreigners the following subjects/research issues which can be carried out during this academic year:
- Reliability of wooden joints in skeletal structures,
- Design of lightweight honeycomb panels with auxetic core,
- Magnesium hydroxide nanoparticles as a paper degradation retardants,
- Gluing of modified wood,
- Gluability of some materials with wood and wood based products,
- Finishing of modified wood with lacquer products,
- Fire retardancy to wood through its surface modification,
- Lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysis by cellulolytic enzymes of insects origin,
- Phytoextraction of trace elements (heavy metals) by Salix taxa.
